Welcome to F.J. Reitz

F.J. Reitz High School celebrates its 100th birthday this year!   It's a year to reflect upon how Reitz has been building well-rounded students through academics, the arts, and athletics for a century.

Did you know that prior to Reitz being built, "Evansville High School" was the only public high school in our city?  When Reitz was completed, that school had to be renamed to acknowledge the new school.  So,
that original school was renamed Central High School.  As this year unfolds, we hope to enlighten our community with interesting bits of Reitz history.

In terms of the current Reitz--we began last year with 1355 students, countless family members, and thousands of devoted community supporters.  We have one principal, two assistant principals, one athletic dire
ctor, four counselors, one social worker, two part-time college coaches, six department chairs, (79) teachers, and (32) support staff members who keep everything operating smoothly.
Our average graduating rate for the past five years is 93%, and  90% of our grads have passed the end-of-course assessments in Algebra and English 10 for the past two years.  We believe in students developing their skills and talents through participation in our 60+ fine arts, academic, and athletic organizations.

The administration, faculty, students, and families of Reitz practice something we call our AWE mantra: "Be AWEsome in attitude, work, and encouragement."  A well-rounded education is not just knowledge, skills, and critical thinking.  It's all of those things and more.

If we can empower students to choose a positive attitude, to develop a strong work ethic in and out of school, and to become comfortable offering and accepting genuine encouragement, we will have set them up for success in any setting.

When you visit Reitz, prepare to be AWEsome! We are not perfect, but we continuously examine our practice, analyze our feedback, and aim to improve our work.

Let's make it a good year!
